Joining

Five steps

01

Install and update GTA V

  1. You need GTA V on a Windows PC, the Legacy edition. Install it and let it finish updating.
  2. FiveM does not change your GTA V files, so your normal game and GTA Online stay as they are.
02

Install FiveM

  1. Download FiveM.exe from fivem.net (the regular download, not the Enhanced one) and run it.
  2. It installs itself and finds your GTA V. Start FiveM from the Windows Start menu afterwards.
  3. The first start downloads the rest of FiveM, so give it a few minutes.

  2. Pick where to spawn. New characters start with a crowbar, a flashlight, food, water and bandages.
05

Survive the first night

  1. Search dumpsters, car wrecks and the dead for supplies. Loot crates also sit at 82 fixed spots across the map.
  2. Press F5 to make or join a squad. Squad mates show on your map and can ping places.
  3. The Galileo Observatory is the safe zone, with the flea market and the kennel. Head there to trade.
  4. Red zones, like Fort Zancudo and the airport, have the best loot and the most danger. Go with a squad.

Questions

Versions, consoles and the first join

Do I need a whitelist or an application?

No. GRN Dead City is open to everyone. Connect and play.

Which version of GTA V do I need?

GTA V on PC, the Legacy edition, with the regular FiveM download from fivem.net. FiveM has a separate early-access client for GTA V Enhanced, but our server runs a Legacy game build and we have not tested it with that client.

Can I play on PlayStation or Xbox?

No. FiveM only runs on Windows PCs, so consoles cannot join.

Why does my first join take so long?

The server has its own vehicles, clothing, map and zombie models, and FiveM downloads all of it the first time you connect. Later joins only fetch what changed.

Is it free, and how many players fit?

It is free for anyone who owns GTA V on PC. The server has 48 slots.

Where is the server?

North America East. Players further away can join, with the ping you would expect.
