A PvPvE extraction shooter: you drop onto a surface overrun by machines, take what you can carry, and try to get back underground before another team - or an ARC - stops you.
Solo works, trios work far better. The whole tension of a raid is deciding whether the squad across the field is worth fighting, and that decision is a lot easier when your own team is on voice.
The voice chat is for filling a team at a sensible hour instead of queueing into randoms who split up immediately.
